Rise Together Award

We’re thrilled to honor an outstanding champion of girl potential at She Leads: Capital Group will receive GSGLA’s Rise Together Award, with Dean Catalano, Senior Vice President & Senior Wealth Advisor, accepting.

This award celebrates a corporate partner that embodies the spirit of collaboration, leadership, and commitment to empowering girls and young women – and Capital Group truly exemplifies this.

She Leads is more than a networking luncheon – It's a celebration of girls using their voices, pursuing bold ideas, and shaping what's next.

Join us for a vibrant afternoon featuring remarkable honorees, an engaging panel conversation on Girl Scouts of California’s recently released CA State of the Girl Report, meaningful connections with Greater Los Angeles' business and community leaders, and immersive Girl Scout activities. Together, we'll celebrate what's possible when girls have the space to explore, grow, and discover what's within.

LAUSD Board Member, District 7

About Tanya toggle arrow

Tanya Ortiz Franklin is the Board Member for LA Unified School Board District 7 (BD7) — serving approximately 175 schools encompassing the beautiful and diverse communities of Florence-Firestone, South LA, Watts, Gardena, Carson, Lomita, Harbor City, Wilmington and San Pedro. Tanya ran for the school board to ensure all students graduate fully prepared to thrive in the college, career and life of their choice.

Tanya returned to her community as a student, teacher, and advocate. A Columbia graduate with a master’s in education from LMU, she taught at Stephen White Middle School. After being laid off during the Great Recession, she attended UCLA Law, focusing on public interest and critical race studies. While at law school, she joined the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, supporting educator development and equitable practices. Since her 2020 election, Tanya has continued her commitment to educational equity and justice.

Tanya’s responsibilities include the approval of the annual budget and evaluating the Superintendent. She and her colleagues have approved historic $20 billion dollar budgets aligned to a strategic plan aimed at improving college eligibility, early literacy, mathematics and social-emotional learning.

As a former classroom teacher and a mom of two, including one current and one future LAUSD student, it’s particularly important for Tanya to ground her decisions in community voices. She stays connected with her stakeholders by engaging with families, educators, students, and staff through regular community conversations, advisory councils, school visits and events.

In her spare time, Tanya enjoys spending time with her family, running, and exploring Los Angeles.

GSGLA Girl Scout

About Natalia toggle arrow

Natalia is creative thinker and passionate leader, she brings together her interests in STEM, education, media, and community engagement. For her Girl Scout Gold Award project, she created an educational experience that introduced middle school students to astrophysics through lessons on parachutes and significant astronomical events. She also interviewed engineers from JPL and Northrop Grumman, incorporating their perspectives into a website designed to help students explore what it’s like to pursue careers in science and engineering.

Her leadership experience extends throughout her school community, where she has served as class president, captain of Speech and Debate, supported media and marketing for her school’s Black Student Union, and currently serves as president of her Associated Student Body. These roles have strengthened her skills in leadership, public speaking, teaching, and advocating for her peers. As a Girl Scout, she hopes to inspire more girls to discover all that Girl Scouting has to offer.
