Proposed Officers

Betsey L. Brewer – Board Chair

B. Brewer

Betsey has served as GSGLA Board Chair since 2009. She is Senior Vice President and Partner of The Rule Company, a regional insurance broker in Pasadena. Betsey has served the council as an Officer and Chair of Development and Property Committees. Most recently, she was the chair of the Council Realignment Committee Finance Sub-Committee.

Betsey is a member of the CPCU Society where she has served as the Los Angeles Chapter President and on the National Board of Governors and as the national President. Betsey currently is a Trustee of the CPCU-Loman Education Foundation. Betsey is a member of IBA West, an insurance trade association and currently serves as the chair of the Strategic Planning Committee.

Betsey has served on the boards of the American Institute for CPCU/Insurance Institute of America, IBA-West, the Volunteer Center of Los Angeles and the Foster Grandparents of Los Angeles Advisory Board. Betsey attended the University of Southern California and resides in Los Angeles with her husband Don.

Christine Jha - Chief Financial Officer (Volunteer) 

Christine is a Tax Partner with Ernst & Young LLP, and her clie n t base  consists of alternative investment managers. She is also the current treasurer of Association of Women in Alternative Investing, a San Francisco-based women’s industry group.  

Christine graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor  of Arts in Accounting and Economics from Bellarmine University. She is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Christine is married to Gyan Jha, and maintains homes in Los Angeles as well as Louisville, Kentucky. In past years, she was an active member of the Junior League of Louisville and an associate board member of Women 4 Women, a Louisville-based non-profit organization aimed at improving women’s lives. Christine was a Brownie and fondly remembers selling Girl Scout cookies.

Anthony (Tony) Kaufman

As Princess Cruises’ Senior Vice President of Commercial Affairs, Tony has a broad commercial role in the company that includes leading the Onboard Revenue and Supply Chain departments as well as managing high-level commercial transactions and relationships.

Tony joined Princess in 1993 as Assistant General Counsel and Director of Business Affairs, and was appointed Vice President of Legal Affairs in 1996. In 2000, Tony was appointed General Counsel of Princess’ then-parent company, P&O Princess Cruises plc. Tony was responsible for all head office legal matters of P&O Princess Cruises. After the successful merger of P&O Princess Cruises plc and Carnival Corporation, he returned to Princess Cruises’ headquarters in California to take on his current position.

Tony received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from UCLA and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles, where he was an editor of the Loyola Law Review. Tony resides in the Los Angeles area with his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Trevor and Amanda. 

Chet A. Kronenberg

Chet is a Partner in the Firm’s Litigation Department. He has represented financial institutions and other clients in a wide range of high-­profile complex commercial litigation matters, including securities, corporate control and consumer actions. Chet has represented The Blackstone Group, Citibank, GenSpring Family Offices, JPMorgan Chase, Lion Capital, Natixis Caspian, Rosemont Solebury, SAC Private Capital, Sankaty Advisors and ZelnickMedia, among many others.

Recent securities matters on which Chet has advised include: Lion Capital in federal securities and derivative actions in connection with its relationship with American Apparel; JPMorgan Chase in litigation concerning auction rate securities; and JPMorgan Chase in securities action arising from the collapse of Enron.

Chet also has substantial experience in litigation arising out of corporate acquisitions and related transactions, as well as actively defending clients in consumer class action lawsuits. Chet was elected to membership in the Firm in 2001. He received his B.A. from Tufts University in 1990 and his Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law in 1993.

Elsa Macias, PH.D.

Elsa consults on projects related to education, science education and technology policy. She has an extensive background in K-12 education, including curriculum development and faculty professional development, assessing the cognitive skills of K-12 students, and evaluating education and information technology programs. Her focus is on increasing excellence and equity in education through better accountability.

Elsa was previously at the Center for Urban Education (CUE) in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California, where she was also a Research Professor. She focused on data-based decision-making, equity in student outcomes, organizational learning and change, and diversity in higher education. Specifically, she was responsible for assisting colleges and universities to increase their effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes.

Prior to that, Elsa held a long tenure at the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute (TRPI), at both the Claremont Colleges and the University of Southern California, where she oversaw the research agenda on information technology policy and established a national reputation as an expert on the diffusion of technology into diverse populations. She conducted research on the technology workforce pipeline for Latinos, educational technology policy, community technology centers, on-line content needs, and the general communication and information needs of Latino and African American communities. 

Felicia K. Gorcyca 

Felicia is a member of the Life Sciences Practice,  specializing in   the healthcare services sector, where she works with integrated health systems and major academic medical centers, community and faith-based hospitals, physician groups and related provider organizations. With more than a decade of search experience, Felicia is experienced in working with clients on CEO and president searches as well as advising on physician executive assignments, senior fundraising/development roles, finance, communications and human resources positions.

In addition to her executive search work, Felicia is active in Spencer Stuart’s Executive Assessment Services, applying her assessment expertise across life sciences and other industry sectors to evaluate senior management teams and provide counsel for leadership development. Prior to joining Spencer Stuart in 1999, Felicia worked with a boutique search firm in southern California, specializing in recruiting for advertising agencies. Felicia participates in a number of important industry forums, including the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Medical Group Management Association, and the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.

She holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of California at Los Angeles and is a member of the school’s Professional Advisory Council for programs in health policy and management. Felicia studied at the American University of Cairo and graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in international business.

Frank H. Wu 

Frank is a Managing Director of Protiviti with over 23 years of profession al experience working with clients to implement practical solutions in proportion to their business risks exposures. He leads both Robert Half Legal’s eDiscovery Services and Protiviti’s firmwide eDiscovery and Records Management Solution. He has helped global companies transform the challenges of ad hoc incident response, electronic discovery and records retention projects into sustainable processes within their routine operations.

Frank has recommended, designed and managed several large-scale financial investigations and litigation support systems to significantly reduce the cost, time and burden associated with legal discovery of electronically stored information. These systems include transactional and analytical systems, document conversion and discovery management systems.

Frank has over 16 years of “Big 4” experience where he served in the US Forensic Technology Steering Committee, and was responsible for its Forensic and Litigation technology center. He also serves on Protiviti’s fimwide Records Retention and e-Discovery Committee.

Lana Bykova

Lana is Vice President and District Manager for Wells Fargo’s Mid City market for the Los Angeles Community Bank. She oversees more than 185 team members at 10 banking stores in the communities of Los Angeles, Hollywood and West Hollywood. Lana directs retails sales and service function of 2.6 billion in deposits.

Prior to assuming this position in 2011, Lana worked as district manager for Wells Fargo’s Santa Clarita Valley market for the San Fernando Valley Community Bank. Before, she served as the company’s Pacific Coast and L.A. Bank customer experience consultant. Lana also was store manager of the Hollywood Main store, assistant store manager, assistant Business Center manager, customer service representative and personal banker.

Karin Berger StellarK. Berger Stellar

Karin is a Partner at Morris & Berger, a retained executive search firm exclusively working in the non-profit sector. She previously served as the Chair of the Alumni Board of the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy.

Karin resides in Pasadena with her husband Sean and their two children. Karin is currently a room parent for her younger daughter’s third grade class. As a mother of a Brownie and a Junior Girl Scout, she is reliving her own experience as a Girl Scout many years ago.  Karin earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a MPA from the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy.

Peggy Edwards*

Peggy is the Principal of Ellis/Edwards, specializing in strategic planning, organization development, community and employee engagement, board training and development, and leadership development. Peggy has worked with a wide variety of private sector organizations, both nationally and internationally. Her government and nonprofit work is broad-based, with specific experience in juvenile justice, children’s services, population-based healthcare, and emergency management planning.

Currently, Peggy serves as the Executive Director of United Homeless Healthcare Partners, a network of providers and advocates in Los Angeles County focused on policy development and service delivery improvement.

Peggy’s community activities include Regional Director of Zonta International, Treasurer of the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, Board Member for Child & Family Center and College of the Canyons Foundation, and Mediator for Voluntary Mediation Services. She received the Purdue University Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Community Service in 2005. Peggy also received the Girl Scout First Class Award.
