Become a Girl Scout volunteer!

Becoming a volunteer with the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles includes completing a Volunteer Application (with references) and submitting to a criminal background screening (if applicable).

Step 1: Complete the Volunteer Application, including providing the names and email addresses of two non-related references (who may be contacted by Girl Scouts of Greater LA). Submit the application to GSGLA by mail or email.

*Please note if completing either the interest form or application on a MAC, documents need to be printed and scanned for emailing, faxed, or mailed to the closest service center*.

Step 2: Complete the Criminal Background Check form; (if applicable); This is required for any volunteer position that involves working directly with girls or handling money. Select the link below indicating the location nearest you. For additional info about the Criminal Background Check process, click here.

Step 3: Once you have completed criminal background check, print out the last page on the site that says: “Thank you for using Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles Portal. Your application was successfully submitted”. Give a copy to your Girl Scout representative and retain a copy for your records.

Take a Council Introduction class. Find and register for a class that fits your schedule and location by visiting the Adult Learning Calendar. Or contact the nearest Service Center for assistance.

Register as a Girl Scout member. Though suggested for all, some volunteers are required to become Girl Scout members and accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. To view the requirements for each volunteer opportunity, click here for the Volunteer Positions Matrix.

You're on your way!

Now all you need to do is take advantage of all the comprehensive and fun training that GSGLA provides. New Girl Scout volunteers serving in leadership roles (leader, co-leader, etc.) have three months to complete required training*. The following training sequence is recommended.

  • *Girl Scouting 101*
  • *Council Introduction
  • *Grade Level workshops (recommended, but not required)
